Helen, Georgia est. 1913

A little piece of Europe nestled in the highest mountains of North Georgia. The Alpine village of Helen is rich in Dutch and German culture which is interestingly enough in a location where one would expect to find something other than Europe! Although this transformation occurred in the 1960's you would never guess the town is so recently Europe. The attractions range from excellent trout fishing, shopping and Bavarian culture. The local eateries and beer gardens are filled with architecture, food, and spirits that are relative of their countries origins. The food available is of the typical German fare which is lots of sauerkraut and sausage!

The downtown area is a bit touristy but when you go into the various shops and attractions you will actually hear foreign languages and accents being used. It is interesting to note that a real Dutch and German culture is beginning to flourish in the area adding to the overall ambiance of the region.

For the deadbear in you the area surrounding Helen is filled with some of the best hiking locales in all of Georgia. Including:

While a Boy scout, I actually visited all of the above places and can attest to the beauty and sound upkeep these areas have. Many places that are of a natural origin have car accessible areas for the day user and then also a trail for hiking into the deeper parts for the true adventure seeker.

    • This will probably be the first entry in a new project were working on, that will show regional photos and culture around Georgia. These are a few of the photos available now many more on the way as this gallery grows.
